Pós-Sacre - 2021
Coming Soon
“What comes after the sacrifice?” This was the basic question that accompanied the artists during the creation of the eight solos for “Pós-Sacre”. The moment, still of pandemic and uncertainty in which the process took place, certainly brought more current meanings to the term "sacrifice". Originally, the question turned to the famous work conceived by Igor Stravinsky, with choreography by Vaslav Nijinsky, in 1913, “The Rite of Spring”, a landmark of modernity. Interestingly, this ballet staged rites and dances of an ancestral community, which culminated in the ritual death of a virgin. And then what happens? What is sacrifice? At what point does a sacred office, a sacred act, lose its connection and become an empty gesture, or synonymous with suffering? Moving on to the question: what is the sacred and the profane, and to what extent do they still make sense in our very post-post-modern time? Finally, what does each one want to sacrifice – both in the sense of what we decided to put an end to and in the sense of offering to a dimension that is bigger than ourselves? The soils that were created in response are intended to be a first step in this research. Conceived from a distance, in countless rehearsals by video call, they took shape in the body of each artist, to then be poured, interpreted, on video again. We hope that this question, and some of the possible answers we propose, will resonate. And may our collective sacrifice, in this time of new global anguish, not be in vain.
This work was recently awarded with the 29th Fomento à Dança in São Paulo.
Its debut is scheduled for 2021.
